Brown Investment Advisory was created in 1993 as a separate, focused group within Alex Brown & Sons, America's oldest investment banking firm. In 1998 the investment arm, Brown Advisory, separated from Alex. Brown on the belief that its client's interests would best be served by independent ownership.
The investment process is based on stock-picking and bottom-up analysis and value is created primarily by thorough research and company visits. Being based within a private bank, Brown Advisory also pays much attention to capital preservation. Brown Advisory has managed US equity in segregated accounts and US based funds since 2000 beating the S&P500 each year. In February 2006, UCITS funds were set up in Dublin. 

Brown Advisory manages over 24 billion U.S. dollars. Brown Advisory is owned 75% by the employees and has more than 250 employees.and is represented by Intervalor since 2007.
